My Lovely Horse Rescue was founded in response to observing horses and donkeys in urban areas being mistreated and their welfare compromised.

"Working to end the suffering of equines in Ireland - Horses, Ponies and Donkeys."
We believe that the three main causes of suffering are:
- Lack of education;
- Indiscriminate breeding;
- Lack of enforcement animal welfare, equine ID and licensing legislation.
My Lovely Horse Rescue was established in 2011 at the height of the horse crisis in Ireland and is run entirely by unpaid volunteers determined to end the suffering of equines in Ireland. We Rescue, Rehabilitate and Rehome. We work with Gardaí, local authorities and the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine in moving starving, neglected, abused and abandoned equines to a place of safety. We lobby politicians and local authorities to increase compliance with legislation among land owners and horse owners. We believe that, while legislation like the Animal Health and Welfare Act broadly protects animal welfare, it does not reflect the rights of animals - the right to be free from hunger, thirst, fear, pain, loneliness - and the right to exhibit natural behaviours. We want laws to describe these rights in a prescriptive manner that is not open to interpretation.
It’s our goal that better animal welfare legislation is properly enforced to protect the right of all horses to - not just life - but a life worth living.
