2012
Our very own horsebox.
Our very good friend and supporter Maggie from Dogs Aid personally bought the girls their first horsebox.
‘Maggie is one of the kindest people you could meet and believes so deeply in the welfare of animals. Debs and I used to volunteer with Dogs Aid which Maggie founded and we’re still on its board. She has always been a great supporter and friend of MLHR and she really believed
in what we were doing from the start.’ Martina
By mid 2012 the girls had rescued 25 horses a lot of whom were in livery, the rest on friends’ land.
‘Our livery bill one month was 4,ooo euros, we were paying for this out of our own pockets and with the generous support of friends who believed in what we were doing. We have such good friends and family, we couldn’t have done it without them.’ Cathy

It was a hard year but as time went on the girls became more convinced that what they were doing was necessary and that they would never be able
to stop.
‘If we’d sat down and thought seriously about the whole thing we might have realised how crazy it was. But when we looked at the horses safe and happy, being fed regularly and with no fear of being beaten we knew this had to be our life from now on.’ Martina
