Our mission

My Lovely Pig Rescue are dedicated to providing specialised care to pigs who have been abandoned, neglected and abused. We work closely with veterinary practitioners to ensure our animals receive not only the same medical attention afforded to more typical companion animals, but to facilitate the medical research needed to build a database for helping pigs in the future.

We heavily focus on creating an environment that allows natural pig behaviour to develop.  We provide stimulation and enrichment to many small groups of pigs whom we have allowed to choose their own companions.  We strongly believe in providing a stress free environment for animals to thrive, and our team gets to learn about true pig behaviour unencumbered by the behavioural issues that come from having natural instincts and freedoms to express species specific behaviours denied. As a result we are able to handle and work with animals who are happy to to be in our company and receive our care.
To our core we believe pigs deserve the same care, compassion and protection as other, more accepted companion animals.

About us

My Lovely Pig Rescue was officially launched in May 2020 and has 127 pigs of all breeds and ages in its care. Over the last 10 years the number of pigs needing rescue has risen, and so we have adapted one of our farms as a dedicated sanctuary to suit the needs of the many different pigs we have. Specifically our Old Folks Block where arthritic piggies have soft ground and raised chalets. Also a new winter barn is currently being built to accommodate pigs who would not do well in the outdoors for the coldest months. This facility has played host to educational programmes such as trainee vets looking for hands on experience in the non commercial sector, and the Department of Agriculture with their ongoing work to improve regulations and practice. The MLPR farm is the only pig rescue in Ireland, making it an incredibly important resource not just for pigs but for pig owners who need help with medical or behavioural emergencies. We work closely with UCD veterinary college for all surgical needs, from castrations and spaying to eye operations and dental work. The MLPR farm is run by founding member Cathy, 1 full and 1 part time Farm Supervisor and a team of 15 live in volunteers. If you are interested in adopting one of our piggies head over to the My Lovely Pig Rescue Facebook and send a direct message.
