A Lasting Legacy for our Furry Friends
Ending animal neglect and cruelty is a very ambitious goal but one which MLHR will never give up on. Animals have no voice in this world so we must be that voice. We have come so far but there is still a long way to go to ensure a world where animals are respected and cherished and given lives worth living. Legacies ensure that after we’re gone, precious lives continue to be saved and our four-legged friends are safe and warm in homes that love and support them. Through your kind legacy you will continue to be part of that journey with us.
Leaving a legacy is very simple...
Whatever size gift you choose to leave us is so very much appreciated and will help make a great difference in our rescued animals’ lives. It ensures them of a brighter future and enables us to continue our work on their behalf.
There are three ways that you can choose to leave a legacy
Pecuniary - this means leaving a specific amount of money. Each amount, no matter how big or small is invaluable in our fight for animal welfare
Residuary - this means a share of your estate, whatever you feel you can give after your family and friends have been taken care of.
Specific - this would be some specific item which you would like to leave. For example you might choose to leave an item of jewellery, stocks and shares or even a property.
The difference your kind legacy can make -
Last year, 2020, MLHR rescued 398 animals, many in need of serious veterinary care but all in need of such basic care like worming, vaccinating and nutritious feeding to build up their strength as many come in to us half-starved. The journey to recovery and full-health that all our rescues make would not be possible without the wonderful kindness and generosity of supporters like you and we are truly grateful. Here are some ways that your legacy can change lives and allow your love for animals to be never ending.

A kind legacy gift of 500 euros would help yearly worming for 8 of for our horses, an essential element of their care programme and one which can often be the difference between life and death for horses, especially young foals who have never received a worming dose and have become extremely sick as a result.
A kind legacy gift of 1,000 euros will help neuter and chip upto 20 cats and set them on their way for a full and healthy life with their new adoptive families.
Neutering and Spaying is an essential part of any animal welfare programme and helps ensure the well-being and protection of all our cats and dogs and protect them from a life-time of breeding.
A kind legacy gift of 5,000 euros would provide for 48 of our equines to be microchipped and passported.
All our equines are micro-chipped with new and innovative chips designed by Equitrace which allow us to access and upload their medical history, take their temperature and track them when they are en route to their new homes, all simply and efficiently by means of a medical scanner. It is the future of equine microchipping and we are delighted to have begun using these new chips. The registering and microchipping of equines is a legal requirement in Ireland and a vital part of the solution to ending the large numbers of unidentified and unwanted equines roaming our country.
A kind legacy of 20,000 would help to pay for upto a quarter of our yearly veterinary bills and be such a huge support for our rescued animals.
With the amount of animals that we rescue and rehabilitate each year our vet bills tend to be quite large as the vast majority of animals coming to our rescue are in need of immediate veterinary treatment. Some recover quickly but many need ongoing treatment to manage their conditions and help them make a full recovery.
A kind legacy of 50,000 would help cover at least 75% of those necessary hay bills and ensure lots of happy and well-fed horses, donkeys, mules, goats and pigs.
With hundreds of animals in our care, our yearly food costs, as you can imagine are very high. Hay is possibly the single largest food expense but such a vital and necessary part of the feeding and nourishment for our farm animals. Some years, depending on the harvests and availability our hay bills can run upto many tens of thousands of euros.
