Our Founding Fillies
Kind, strong, loyal, brave - these are the traits that allowed the Kenny sisters, Martina and Deborah to set up a horse rescue from scratch with no funds and no background in horses. Maybe add a little bit of crazy in there too!
From childhood they’ve shared a very strong bond and then one day, they met Cathy Davey in a park as all three were walking their dogs and that was it, they'd found their kindred spirit.
All three women are very powerful personalities in their own right and because of this have gathered around them a really unique, eclectic bunch of people who’ve become devoted to the cause that they promote - giving all animals a life worth living no matter what the cost. The idea they promote is that each animal, just like each human, has a life that means everything to them because it is the only one they have. So we have a responsibility and a duty to see that each of those lives is lived free and safe and happy. Just that, just that simple idea that is so powerful because it is the truth that all humans have to wake up to someday.

DeborahDeborah holds everything together behind the scenes, immensely hard-working and practical, always calm in a time of crisis, nothing fazes her and she is always ready to laugh and spread some fun. She demands high standards from everyone and protects her animals like they were family - which of course they are.
Apart from being Head of our Finance team, Debs is also our transportation manager and handles a huge workload with her small team of box pullers transferring our sick and injured animals to and from vet appointments. She spends a lot of time on the road rescuing animals and also bringing them for foster or adoption. |
CathyCathy grew up with horses, for the past 5 years her passion has been to improve pig welfare and knowledge, providing owners with support and advice and working with other organisations to improve pig welfare in Ireland. She is the manager and nurse on the My Lovely Pig Rescue Farm overseeing all their medical, behavioural and environmental needs. Her farm is also a sanctuary for equines and farm animals with problems that make them un suitable for rehoming. She syncs up with our vets for all surgical needs such as neutering, x rays and emergencies and is head of pig transportation for any piggies in need across the country.

MartinaMartina grew up with a household always full of dogs. At a very early age she used to bring a lot of the local dogs home thinking she was rescuing them, meanwhile their owners would be out looking for them!!
Her passion for rescuing horses became clear when walking to school as a teenager, she would go the long way so she could check on horses that would be tied up with blue rope. She checked on them every morning and freed them many times. Her huge love for pigs became apparent when MLHR rescued their first pig, Wilbur, a huge big gentle pig, it was love at first sight for Martina. She has the unique ability to speak to people from all walks of life and charm everyone equally. She handles all MLHR publicity through our Website, Facebook and public events. |
