Making a difference

Local Welfare

Many of our volunteers monitor horses on public land in their local areas and provide water and hay during severe weather conditions to vulnerable animals.

Education

We provide horse care and welfare training and education to a variety of groups. These include traveller groups and schools.
We support learning and work placements for individuals with special needs and those wishing to enter employment.
We deliver presentations to a range of professionals, such as Gardaí to improve awareness around the issues facing urban horses and to improve their understanding of the legislation and powers in place to protect equines.
If you would like to find out more about arranging a school presentation or work placements please email
hello@mlhr.ie

Working with others

MLHR works with other organisations to improve horse welfare and enforcement of the Animal Health and Welfare Act (2013).
We participate in a number of forums to help improve horse welfare and the enforcement of existing legislation. These include:

o   Dublin South West Inner City Community Policing Forum
o   Labre Horse Association
o   Kilkenny County Council Committee for Animal Cruelty
o   Assisting the Meakstown Horse Club for Dublin City Council.
o   We are working with the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Marine to improve welfare conditions in the pig sector.
o   We work with a number of local Gardai to help improve enforcement of the Animal Health & Welfare Act.
