MLHR Canine Rehoming
Introduction
As with all the animals who come into our care, we make every effort to rehabilitate the dogs who we rescue and then we look for long term homes for them. We put huge effort into ensuring that the homes we find for our dogs are loving and caring and ensure that each dog then has a a life worth living.

- Every dog that comes through MLHR is microchipped to the organisation. Once a new owner is found, they can change this to ensure that the dog is microchipped to them;
- We ensure that any veterinary treatment that is needed is carried out.
- We administer flea and worm treatments to the dogs/puppies (when old enough)
- If they are over six months, we spay or neuter them. If they are younger then we liaise with their new owner to complete this procedure.
- First vaccinations will be carried out by MLHR vet and then all follow on vaccinations are completed by the adopters vet.
- Every adoption will be preceded by a home check carried out by either a volunteer with MLHR or a staff member
- The following questions will form part of a home check:
- Does the prospective owner have canine experience
- Who else is in their household, if young children is that a suitable home for the particular dog
- Do they have other pets
- If they have other dogs, we establish if the prospective adoptee would suit a home with other dogs
- Is the garden well secured
- Does the dog have the option to sleep indoors (we do not rehome to homes where the dogs would sleep outdoors.)
- Does the prospective owner have a local vet
- Once approved, the adopter will be notified and will fetch the dog at a time suitable to the adopter and MLHR Dog Team
