MLHR Statement on Discrimination
Our aim in MLHR is to work towards a society that is free from cruelty to animals. Where there are animals there are also humans, so in our work, we do not tolerate racism, discrimination or hate speech in any of our forums. We reserve the right to block members of the public who comment in any way that is discriminatory on the basis of race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, disability, ethnicity, socio economic status or age. We will also use our discretion to block members of the public who use inflammatory language. We do this because we know that inflammatory language, hatred or prejudice will not achieve our aims. Kindness, hard work, cooperation and enforcement will do this.
In light of the above, as an organisation we work closely with various state agencies and other animal welfare bodies. We work with them in a spirit of cooperation in order to advance our common aims around animal welfare. We therefore refrain from publicly condemning the actions of An Garda Siochana, the Department of Agriculture, local councils and other arms of government or any of the animal welfare groups that work in the same space as us. Our priority remains the welfare of the animals in our care and elsewhere. If however, members of the organisations above, or the organisations themselves, act in a way that is contrary to our own principles, we reserve the right to criticise or take action accordingly.
